“In summer, the song sings itself.” William Carlos Williams

Hey fam,

Sorry it’s been so long. I’m not the best at keeping in touch. Sometimes I lose sight of what I love. The last couple months were crazy with finals and all. I’m finally seddling down for a quiet summer in the bay. Anyways, shit has been popping on the music front. If you haven’t heard Eminem’s leaked album Recovery you should torrent that ish fast. Drake’s Thank Me Later can be found as well. I’m also excited for the new Stars album which is set to drop June 22.

All these albums have got me thinking about how short our generation’s attention span is. The new thing is definitely to find hot singles and spread them around. While this strategy definitely increases exposure and diversity I’m worried we’re only getting to know artists superficially. Sometimes we should just set aside an hour and pop in an album. Listen to the bad, the good, the hits, and the flops. Anyways, these are just thoughts – and you can bet here at seddled we’ll still be sharing our favorite jams as they come through.
Here are a few for the summer.

Mumford and Sons/ Little Lion Man

Mumford and Sons came out of the London folk scene in 2007. Their music is throaty and stringy and moving and honest. If you enjoy this song look for more off their debut album Sigh No More. I highly recommend The Cave. White Blank Page is also an emotional tour de force (I’ve always wanted to use that phrase).

Nas & Damian Marley feat. K’naan/ Africa Must Wake Up

Africa is an enchanting place. I need to get myself over there asap. My sister has just been traveling through Mozambique and South Africa for the past month and it all just sounds so stupendously epic. Anyways this song is from Distant Relatives, a collab effort from two significant artists of our generation, Nas and Damian Marley. It’s crazy how two sounds can build on one another and result in something completely new. I would have loved to witness the give and take and learning that must have occurred in the studio between these two.

Thanks for your time. A new force is coming to seddled real soon. Keep checking back for that new new.
Don’t stress.

Coachella! The Sounds

I have a friend who hasn’t stopped smiling since the festival. This music is why. We jammed to these songs in the desert. All these photos were taken at the festival and I’m glad I can share that time with you. But after last weekend I realized we shouldn’t be satisfied hearing this beautiful music cramped indoors on shitty laptop speakers.  Go out and listen. Until then, stay seddled and take care of yourself.

Coachella! The Visuals

Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending Coachella. I’m truly lucky to be able to up and do that.  It’s been a week but somehow it feels a lifetime away. Three days drenched with sun, friends, music and fun. And music! We’re talking Passion Pit, Tiesto, Jay Z, the XX, David Guetta, The Whitest Boy Alive etc. But first. Some of my favorite shots of the weekend.

Architectural Projection Mapping

Wow. This is just wild. Precise digital projection on physical architectural elements. All caught in HD. And then packaged nicely into a cloud-based video sharing site. All for your enjoyment. Stay seddled.

Rad Omen / Rad Anthem

Play this song on a Sunday afternoon and you’ll be ready to rage. And then this video? Straight batty. Director Nicholaus Goossen is right on the money with the progression. Here’s one to bump when you’re trying to get faded.

Young Mashups

Xaphoon Jones / I Wanna Know Now (MGMT vs. Bob Marley)

So apparently everyone in the world but me has heard of this cat. Also known as Noah Beresin, Xaphoon is the second part of the duo coming out of Philly known as Chiddy Bang. Mashups are tricky. Personally I think we got a little bit ahead of ourselves with the whole thing. When they’re done right they though take the best of both songs and introduce something that gets brought out by the union. Seems to be that Noah has it down.

The Cataracs / Stimulating Package Mixtape

It’s really quite embarassing I’ve been seddling for a while now and have yet to drop the Cata. Coming out of Berkeley these two guys have been keeping their sound fresh and making their dreams into realities. They’ve evolved tremendously over the years, starting off as a pure rap crew and moving on to “techno hop”. Throughout they’ve had a unique sound that resists categorization. On this post I want to highlight their Stimulating Package mixtape, which featured some great original songs as well as some artful mashups.

Essentials

This is the third day in a row I’ve spent hanging around airport terminals. Boy people are stressed! And angry. As for me, most of my time I had free WiFi and a power outlet. That’s plenty.

Here are four songs everyone needs in their library of tunage.
