Well Summer is starting to fade, but here’s one last quick summer anthem coming out of the 609. Song’s dope and the lyrics talk about a lot of Princeton spots so it should be refreshing. Check out L.A.N.K, hopefully the next big thing out of the dirty jerz. Kudos to MC for this one.
Miles Davis/ Will O’ The Wisp
Wow. What this guy can do with a trumpet is unbelievable. This song is from the album Sketches of Spain, which paired Davis together with arranger composer Gil Evans. The song is originally from a ballet from the Spanish folk tradition, El Amor Brujo by Manuel de Falla.
Curren$y ft. Stalley/ Address
Thanks to Pinkeye for getting me up to date on this. Curren$y is a New Orleans-born rapper whose 2009 mixtape with Wiz Khalifa, How Fly, is a must cop.
Cudi has leaked and released a couple tracks this summer. I don’t know about y’all but this little taste has me jazzed about his upcoming drop in September. More to come soon!
Diamond Pistols by Fresh Espresso is one of those songs that’s beat just immediately takes over and gets you into the song. I hope everyone enjoys their 4th of July weekend. Happy Birthday America.
So my internet has been down lately at home keeping me from adding some new posts, but I thought I’d start back up this week with a song from The Dirty Heads, a band that I think is going to blow up soon. Their songs remind me of Sublime with a mix of reggae/rock mixed with rap. Speaking of Sublime, they have recently reformed without front runner Bradley Nowell (RIP), and have added Rome Ramirez an up-and-coming singer/guitarist whose vocals sound really similar to Nowell. For the song I chose this week, Rome has teamed up with the Dirty Heads to make an awesome song with a reggae fusion version of Bonnie & Clyde. I think I read in Rolling Stone that they actually wrote the song in like an hour or something. I might be making that up though. Anyways, I hope you all enjoy and get ready for big things out of The Dirty heads in the future. Their entire album is pretty awesome, so if you like this song then check out Any Port In a Storm and you won’t be disappointed.
Hello Seddled! This will be my first post for this infamous blog. To the blog’s trusty followers, Mr. Hanna has graciously asked me if I would be willing to provide some contributions to the blog so that there will be twice as many posts, twice as much music, and hopefully twice as much stuff for your liking. Anyways…You Are Not a Robot by Hoodie Allen seems like a solid way to start things off. This song has the old school Kanye West high-pitched voice chorus to go along with some decent flow and a great beat. Chiddy Bang exploded on the scene last year, and Hoodie Allen’s sound is similar and seems like he might have the potential to replicate that performance. Hope you all enjoy.
The World Cup is ill because it’s a truly global event. Forget “The World Series” or the Superbowl, where athletic mercenaries are crowned “World Champions” simply by beating every other athlete in a highly-competitive professional league. This event is unlike any other perhaps except the Olympics. This summer the world’s best footballers have been called upon by their countries to converge on South Africa. Streets will burn, work will halt, and entire countries will be frozen to television sets. But even the most glorious goals and heartbreaking losses are simply chapters in the celebration of our common humanity. Happy World Cup everyone. Here’s the soundtrack I think they should have chosen.
The Very Best/ Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa
The Very Best is a trio made up of Malawian singer Esau Mwamwaya and british production duo Radioclit, go cop their album Warm Heart of Africa
Johnny Clegg and Savuka/ Dela
Johnny Clegg (known as The White Zulu) is a South African musician who is widely lauded for his ability to mix traditional Zulu and Western music styles. He has partnered for the African band Savuka for this uplifting anthem.
Goldfish/ Hold Tight
Goldfish is an electronic band for Cape Town that is on their shit. They often will headline at Pacha clubs around the world. Gotta love the horns on this track.
Sorry it’s been so long. I’m not the best at keeping in touch. Sometimes I lose sight of what I love. The last couple months were crazy with finals and all. I’m finally seddling down for a quiet summer in the bay. Anyways, shit has been popping on the music front. If you haven’t heard Eminem’s leaked album Recovery you should torrent that ish fast. Drake’s Thank Me Later can be found as well. I’m also excited for the new Stars album which is set to drop June 22.
All these albums have got me thinking about how short our generation’s attention span is. The new thing is definitely to find hot singles and spread them around. While this strategy definitely increases exposure and diversity I’m worried we’re only getting to know artists superficially. Sometimes we should just set aside an hour and pop in an album. Listen to the bad, the good, the hits, and the flops. Anyways, these are just thoughts – and you can bet here at seddled we’ll still be sharing our favorite jams as they come through.
Here are a few for the summer.
Mumford and Sons/ Little Lion Man
Mumford and Sons came out of the London folk scene in 2007. Their music is throaty and stringy and moving and honest. If you enjoy this song look for more off their debut album Sigh No More. I highly recommend The Cave. White Blank Page is also an emotional tour de force (I’ve always wanted to use that phrase).
Nas & Damian Marley feat. K’naan/ Africa Must Wake Up
Africa is an enchanting place. I need to get myself over there asap. My sister has just been traveling through Mozambique and South Africa for the past month and it all just sounds so stupendously epic. Anyways this song is from Distant Relatives, a collab effort from two significant artists of our generation, Nas and Damian Marley. It’s crazy how two sounds can build on one another and result in something completely new. I would have loved to witness the give and take and learning that must have occurred in the studio between these two.
I have a friend who hasn’t stopped smiling since the festival. This music is why. We jammed to these songs in the desert. All these photos were taken at the festival and I’m glad I can share that time with you. But after last weekend I realized we shouldn’t be satisfied hearing this beautiful music cramped indoors on shitty laptop speakers. Go out and listen. Until then, stay seddled and take care of yourself.
Passion Pit/ The Reeling Download/ The Reeling
Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending Coachella. I’m truly lucky to be able to up and do that. It’s been a week but somehow it feels a lifetime away. Three days drenched with sun, friends, music and fun. And music! We’re talking Passion Pit, Tiesto, Jay Z, the XX, David Guetta, The Whitest Boy Alive etc. But first. Some of my favorite shots of the weekend.
